- How to Start a Blog Leader by Jessica Knapp (Updated January 9, 2019)
So, do you want to start blogging? Great idea!
But… how do you get started? There is a lot of information on the web, and everyone is asking you to do different things. Who do you listen to? Where is the starting point?
Damnit, maybe you should forget it - it's so vague!
Well, hold on. I used to be a fresh blogger. I had the same problem. I started my blog (BloggingBasics101.com) in 2006, and I knew nothing about blogging. Actually, I only had one week to find out what the blog is about.
Now I know a ton about them, and my blog is doing well - I get over 300,000 unique visitors every month, which is why I consider myself a listener and When it comes to creating your own blog, I can learn it. I'm not a guru of any kind, but I know the basics.
I promise it will be easy, relatively easy and definitely easy to understand (no stupid) Sounds good?
Awesome, ah, go on.
So below, I give you exactly what you need to get started and set up your own blog. Although we're digging, I really want to talk about why you should create a blog.
Note: If you have a solid idea for a joke, skip it and go ahead with the guide.
Blogging has become one of the most popular ways to spread and spread information and news. There are literally millions of blogs online (no worries, you can put yourself in front and take notice of it).
A great way to express yourself and a way to share information with others.
The best reason? You Can Make Money By Doing It!
I bet you already knew them all, but nice to remind.
One last thing before we get started:
Steps included in this blogging guide
Setting up a website from scratch is not as difficult (it requires very little technical expertise). In fact, you don't need coding. Good news, huh?
How to Start a Blog in 5 Steps:
There are five important steps you need to take to start a blog. If you follow this guide exactly, you need to set up your blog in 30 minutes or less.
Choose a great blog platform
Choose the web host for your blog
How to set up a blog on your domain
Design your new blog
Useful resources for blogging
So, we made it. Better late than never!
Step 1 - Choose your favorite blogging platform
The first thing you need to do is choose where you want to create a blog. I'll take a leap and assume you've heard of WordPress, and this is the platform I advocate for. It is massive.
It's one of the world's blogging platforms, with tons of plugins and AdSense and infinite ways to design and configure your blog.
Basically, WordPress = has a lot more than 82 million active users.
However, there are more alternatives, and they are listed below:
Blogger - Definitely the next best thing for WordPress.
Tumblr - Half a social network, half a blog. Interesting, and easy to use.
Although WordPress is bigger (and probably better) than these two, my reasons are why you should still go with WordPress:
Super easy to set up and use
Lots of free themes and layouts (I'm not kidding, there are gazillions out there).
There is a great support forum in case you get stuck (you won't have to, but it's good to be there if you need to).
Your blog will be super fast and it will also have the functionality and appearance - perfect!
People can easily communicate with you. Your content can be shared, commented on, and more.
Here's an article on various blogging platforms (including WordPress), read:
How to choose a blogging platform
Now, the second step (look, we're moving fast now!)
Step 2 - Self-Hosting or Free Alternatives?
Oh, there lazy! This is the biggest decision you'll have to make before you take any further steps. You need to decide whether to pay for your blog or get one for free.
WordPress, Tumblr, and Blogger offer free blogs for everyone. Great, okay? This is perfect for those of us who aren't serious about blogging. But it lacks:
1) OWN domain name
You won't be able to get your
On a free blog, your blog's web address (your URL) is a bit ugly. Like, really ugly. In short, create a free blog with one of the above free blog services and it will look like this:
yourblog.wordpress.com
yourblog.blogspot.com
yourblog.tumblr.com
I know, it's ugly, right?
2) limits and more limits
There are some limitations to a free blog. You may not be able to fully earn it, and you are unlikely to upload all the videos and photos you want to show to everyone - all of which are limited. What's worse is that you won't have access to the free themes offered by WordPress.
3) You will not accept your blog
This may seem foolish at first, but you are not the owner of your blog. It's hosted on someone else's web property and can delete it if they want. They have done so in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. Which means that all your hard work on your blog, in all the countless hours of writing blog posts that can be finished in seconds. upset…
On the other hand, with a self-hosted blog on your domain name - you are the real owner of your blog. You can name your blog whatever you want, "YourName.com" or for example, "YourAwesomeBlog.com. You can remove it from .com, .co.uk, .Net, .org, or any other Web suffix. Add in this unlimited bandwidth for free themes, including videos, photos, and content, and you have the winner scroll.
So how much is a hosting and domain name? Fortunately, not as much as you may think. It usually depends on your hosting provider which is less than a few pairs of coffee.
If you still have questions, here's some more information to look at:
Should I Choose a Host or Non-Hosting Blogging Platform?
Step 3 - Start a Blog on Your Domain (If You Have Selected Self-Hosting and Custom Domains)
WordPress blogging platform
I'm going to proceed with the premise that you've chosen WordPress, and if you haven't, you should. Seriously, this is the best.
If you're still a little confused about what a self-hosted blog is, allow me to explain it and how you can go about setting up your own.
You need to come up with your preferred domain name and choose a hosting company that can host your blog.
Domain: The domain is URL of your website basically the . Examples: Google com (Google domain is domain), Facebook com (Facebook is domain). Watch? Easy!
Hosting: Hosting is basically a company that puts your website on the internet so that everyone can see it. Everything will be safe there. Think of it as a computer hard drive on the Internet where your blog will be saved.
Disclosure: I recommend using HostGator for web hosting. If you click on any of my links and make a purchase, I will receive a commission, which helps to continue and run BlogsGabox101.com.
Personally, I use Hosts (for my blog domain and hosting), and I've found nothing but good things to say about it.
This is probably one of the cheapest (less than $ 3 monthly) hosting providers. A domain name will cost about -15- 10-15 a year, but with a host getter, you can get it for free the first year.
If you sign up with HostGator, make sure to use coupon code BB101 as it will unlock maximum discounts on all your hosting packages.
:) Great smiles for her!
They are the providers I use for all my blogs, including those you are currently reading.
If for any reason you do not want to go with the host, feel free to choose your hosting company. Most, if not all, of them should have a "one click" WordPress install solution on their admin panel.
That button will automatically install WordPress on your blog. Did I say it was easy or what?
All you have to do is sign up with the host (or your chosen provider), select your hosting plan and domain name and look for the One Click WordPress Install button on the admin panel.
If you get stuck somewhere, this guide can help because it has screenshots.
WordPress accessories are not often needed, but I would recommend that privacy (which keeps all your personal details private) and certainly automatic backups (in case you fail or disappear) So you don't miss out on anything (or a small part of your blog).
Start a blog with the host today and get a special 60% discount with Coupon BB101
Once WordPress is installed on your website, all you have to do to start blogging is usually go to your WP admin page and go to www.yourblognamehere.com/wp-admin and add a new post. Start typing.
At first, the layout looks confusing, but it seems to make sense very quickly. do not worry!
Step 4 - Designing Your WordPress Blog
Now, a bit of fun
Let's take a look at your blog exactly how you want it. To choose a new theme, you can either go to Appliance> Themes and install a free WordPress theme, or you can go to a premium theme website like ThemeForest.com and cost about $ 40 a person. Can buy the theme.
I usually choose something that looks professional and easy to customize. WordPress also has this amazing feature that lets you change themes with just a few clicks. So if you start getting fed up with your existing blog template, you can switch to someone else without losing any valuable content or imagery.
Choose Blog Theme
Remember, the design of your blog should reflect both you and your personality, but also what the blog is about. If your blog is about tennis, then, understand, there is no point in having a football-oriented theme?
On top of that, if you want people to be around, navigating should be easy. If it is difficult and difficult to get around, people will not. After all the design is a subtle art; meaning everyone likes different things.
But nobody likes ugly websites, and they especially hate websites that require a university degree to navigate. Make it easy for them.
